The day was awesome. The sun was ‘stinking hot’ early in the day and, once we got going, there were great climbs toward what looked like a 14000′ cloudbase. Andrew McGrath and Simon Hackett had a delightful and fun mutual flight in the Janus for 1.5 hours early in the afternoon to circa 12,000′.
They came back from Blanchetown to give Leigh a go, flying back from 10,000 ft with full landing flap and full airbrake to create a nice ?final glide? from there to a few thousand feet over the airfield, with induced sink rates hitting around 12 kt average on the vario. Leigh had a similarly nice flight in the Janus after us!
Catherine Conway was very generous in launching everyone with the tug without any soaring undertaken herself.
