Flying 25 June 2016

Despite the weather being cold and miserable, an unstable air-mass came through the area around lunch time. Ben Carter managed to scrap 28 minutes in the K8 and got to 2300’. Derek Spencer then had a go and got 64 minutes. A lot of the thermals were in the order of 0.5 knot but  the K8 can thermal at just over 30 knots at a relatively shallow angle of bank allowing the pilot to take advantage of small and weak thermals. The first few thermals topped out at 2600’ but Derek’s last thermal went to 3000’. All good fun.

A big thanks to Leigh Stokes who drove the winch on Sunday and he drove the winch almost all day Saturday for BVGC. He did get a conversion to the Marianne on Saturday as well.
