Flying Weekend 15/16 May

Saturday looked promising from the start with a good attendance. Operations got underway with relative ease, the Puchatek, Motorfalke and Club Libelle were all DI’ed and brought out to launch point. Dennis took Jon for a check flight first and the first launch ended with a land-ahead rope break. Two more check flights followed and Dennis sent Jon solo.

Whilst this was happening, Redmond and Catherine took the Motorfalke over to Truro Flats for their annual Fly In day. Michael had his check flight and was also sent solo by Dennis. Simon and Nick each had a circuit in the Puchatek for their Air Experience Flights before switching to the Motorfalke with Redmond for some more flying time.

With the Puchatek free, Jon went solo and set about qualifying for his B Certificate. His first solo was another land-ahead cable break. Michael also went for a solo flight and conducted “one of the best landings [Dennis] has ever seen”.

John Dunstall took Mike India for flight of the day; a 14 minute flight. Thanks also goes to Anne and Mark T for spending all day on the winch.

The bonfire and BBQ was a huge success with all enjoying themselves. Thanks to Jon for organising, Mark T for cooking and John for helping clean up.

Sunday looked like it was going to be a good day. With a plan set, the Puchatek was DI’ed and operations got underway. David took Michael for the first two flights. On the second launch the top tank on the radiator decided to re-crack and spray coolant everywhere. Upon closer inspection the previously repaired crack had let go, snapping off the overflow.

With the winch out of operation, the Motorfalke was DI’ed and Anne took Brady for his Air Experience Flight. Brady was impressed with flying in the Motorfalke and is very keen to return and experience a winch launch first hand.
